Normal Times of Sunday Services

In our three 'Layer' villages, services of worship are held at the following churches:

LAYER DE LA HAYE - St John the Baptist
LAYER BRETON - St Mary the Virgin
LAYER MARNEY - St Mary the Virgin

Elsewhere on this website you can find information on the church buildings and their locations.

The current pattern of normal Sunday services in each of our three Layer churches is shown in the relevant table below. Following the formation of the Thurstable and Winstree benefice, and the appointment of Celia Cook as our Team Vicar, the pattern is subject to review once there has been a full assessment of what might be practical and sustainable in our new situation.

We do recommend that you regularly check for any changes by visiting the Forthcoming Events page of this website and looking in our monthly publications : the Parish Gazette, for services at Layer de la Haye, and Parish News for services at Layer Marney and Layer Breton.

Fifth Sunday in the Month: When there is a 'fifth Sunday' in a month, our normal morning and evening services are as follows:

9-30am 'Five Parishes' Holy Communion, when Copford, Easthorpe and the three Layer parishes come together for a joint service. The venue for this rotates around each of the five parish churches.

6-00am Benefice Evensong, for the nine parishes in the benefice. The venue for this rotates around our benefice churches.

VENUES for these 'fifth Sunday' services are usually advertised on this website but we advise you to check in the Parish Gazette or in Parish News.

Orders of Service - Common Worship

We use Common Worship Holy Communion Order One for all Holy Communion Services in the Layer parishes. The order of service is printed in an easy to follow booklet which is provided in all our churches.

Bible Readings at Services: The Common Worship Lectionary is followed. From Advent Sunday, 1st December 2013, we are using the Lectionary for Year A (2013 - 2014).
